As we highlight and applaud the achievements of millions of Women in Science, we must also talk about what more needs to be done to ensure that the next generation of girls are inspired and equipped to build STEM careers. In a future where 80% of the jobs will require STEM skills, Indian girls need our help to discover, learn, enjoy, and find a career in STEM. Today, we speak to key changemakers from government bodies, corporates, NGOs and a few eminent women of STEM, to find out their solutions to create an equitable and inclusive future for women and girls. We all know that girls in India are lagging behind when it comes to access to STEM education and jobs, but IBM’s STEM for Girls Initiative is working to reduce the STEM gender gap and has already brought over 2,00,000 girls in government schools across 12 states into the world of science. The STEM for Girls initiative works in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology as well as a constellation of 11 civil society partners, and is focussed on strengthening government school infrastructure and building teacher capacity to create sustainable models for STEM learning. To scale faster and to reach more girls, IBM India is opening up the learnings of its STEM for Girls model to like-minded organizations.
