Annual shearing of UW's flock is important for good animal husbandry and it's the first step in collecting the wool for our first ever UWYO wool blanket. Pre-sale starts July 27th, open sale August 17th https://www.sheepchain.org/blanket-project University of Wyoming’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in collaboration with SheepChain began the Blanket Project in 2021. The Blanket Project serves as an intentional, innovative continuation of the university’s heritage as a foundational support to Wyoming’s sheep ranchers. Each year the Blanket Project designs and manufactures limited-edition wool throws. The wool for each blanket comes from the University of Wyoming’s heritage sheep developed at UWYO 100 years ago. Manufactured by Mountain Meadow Wool Mill in Buffalo, WY, this woolen throw celebrates the sustainable, rugged fabric of the rural west. This Blanket Project is more than a good way to stay warm. It is a responsive alternative to meet funding needs. Proceeds from the Blanket Project will fund and support sheep teaching, research, and extension efforts within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Wyoming. When people in and out of Wyoming purchase a blanket, they are collaborating with the university in this vital work. Each blanket sale helps ensure our heritage is not left in the past, but rather it becomes something sustainable, supported by innovation. http://www.uwyo.edu/anisci/outreach/uw-sheep-program/
