Showcase : AI Innovation Ecosystems

For the final session of The Turing Way Practitioners Hub, the three presenters illustrate AI Innovation Ecosystems in action: where progress emerges from connected networks of technology, people, institutions, and shared infrastructure. They showcase how AI sustainability relies on collaboration, openness, community governance, and trust, enabling impact across homes, local regions, and public systems. Eluxevo applies AI to home heating optimisation, balancing technical complexity with everyday needs for comfort and affordability. The case emphasises user-centred design, where systems respond to lived experience (“how are you feeling?”), and argues that open-source software and open research can lower barriers to innovation and accelerate practical impact in energy systems across the board. Teesside explores how a trusted, community-governed data-sharing framework can support decarbonisation ambitions. The case highlights the importance of breaking down cultural resistance, addressing fears around data ownership, and using trust-based governance to enable innovation in a region entering a new industrial chapter. By creating safe sandbox environments and supporting experiential, local learning, the initiative reduces barriers to experimentation and builds AI capability from the ground up.
