SHRIEKBACK Lined Up SINGLE VERSION

A fab 1983 release from British dance act Shriekback. Formed a couple of years earlier, 'Lined Up' was from their first full length LP 'Care' and perhaps among their best known songs. Here in Australia, 'Lined Up' debuted September 12, 1983 and although it spent a couple of months selling copies, just missed the Top 40 (#42). It made the Billboard dance chart, and was huge on the UK Indie chart, but couldn't crack the British Top 40. I have no recollection of it from the time, but a colleague used to wax lyrical about Shriekback but they have not found their way into my collection. I have two versions of 'Lined Up'. Just for fun, I did the extended version first, then re-edited it for the one you see on this post. It is a little reminiscent of Talking Heads and DEVO, but Shriekback were certainly at the forefront of electro pop and new wave dance music that would sweep the 1980's and beyond. They were prolific in that decade but more sporadic output followed in the recent years. Some of their other releases made a little foray into charts around the world, but 'Lined Up' is their only Australian entry. But it is a great track with a killer bass line and a catchy refrain. Ok, the extended version is...all lined up! (sorry, i had to) :)
