This type of trigger and deadfall trap is used by fur trappers in Arctic Siberia. The common target animal would be ermine (the white coated stoat) but it could be used for any mammal that takes bait.
Raised off the ground to avoid deep snow, the roof thatch can be thickened to prevent fresh snowfall affecting the mechanism. If used over deep snow, attach a cord to the trigger pieces to prevent their loss when they drop into drifts.
