Can you calculate lost opportunities? Normally a "lost opportunity" happens within the first few interactions of a manufacturer and a potential customer. The manufacturer has most of the equipment and know-how to produce the product but may not have capacity in their product development department. So that potential multi-million dollar order is dead on arrival because the brand couldn't get you 6 separate cones of yarn. This is one scenario when a back winder is so critical to have. When I made sweaters I would receive a single 2 pound cone of yarn. I needed at least 4 cones to knit and another small package for sewing or linking. The yarn used in sewing or linking needed a little extra strength so wax needed to be applied, and all of this was achieved by a simple back winder. You are nearing the end of a dye lot, and have one full package of yarn left and other partial cones... set that electronic metering to divide it into equal smaller packages. Sewing thread is breaking because it is getting caught underneath it self. This happens when the cone is wound too soft or gets damaged in transit or handling on the sew floor. Instead of throwing it out or letting it sit in your warehouse, back wind it so it's usable. I'd go as far and say a back winder may be one of the most sustainable pieces of textile equipment. This Simet SE.2 back winder has electronic metering and waxing capabilities. As of right now, I have this in stock in my Greensboro NC showroom but it is for sale.
