"Sinbot" is a hybrid mix I built in the late 1990's. The fuse is plans-built from the Berkley kit called "Sinbad the Sailor". I wanted to leave the kit original in-box as much as possible. The wing is my adaptation of the beautiful Zaic "Thermic" kits. I think this was Dave Thornburgs' inspiration for his "Bird of Time" sailplanes. These are some of the prettiest wing planforms ever, and I love watching it circle overhead. Sinbad + Bird of Time = "Sinbot"😁 The one drawback is that all the Sinbad wings were dihedraled, with a constant chord. I decided to add polyhedral with just a slight bit of dihedral to the center section. This REALLY helps it turn, but with the raised wingtips, the stabilizer would drag across the ground on landings. So...I installed some outriggers at the polyhedral break to keep from damaging the tail feathers. My wing came out to 53". -------------------------------------------------------- Once all the congealed castor oil was cleared from its innards, the Cox Tee Dee .020 REALLY cranked out some revs. Regardless of quite a bit of forward (down) trim being cranked in, the Sinbot climbed to some impressive heights before the large-capacity tank ran out of Sig 25% fuel. A beautiful February day for flying.
