What is Singer Sewn Binding? Essentially singer sewn binding is a method of book binding using what looks like a traditional sewing machine. From flat collated sheets we then sew down the centre into a case, on this occasion we used red thread. The book is then folded over and is complete. On this book we went a step further and die cut a shape at the top and put a door in the middle. Singer sewing binding has many advantages both practically and stylistically. One of the main practical advantages is that the books open flat all the time and the pages are very secure because they have got forty or so stitches down the centre. This book has the stitches visible on the outside cover, where as this one didn’t. The covering material lays over the stitches so they are invisible. Stylistically you can use them as part of the design, this book has black thread with the stitches left hanging at either end, as has this red one here. These two books have the singer sewing 10mm in from the left hand edge. This is a nice style feature as the stitching is visible and you can attach things to the front of the book as on this one here. This one is a French fold book, where the folds are on the outside and the singer sewing down the inside.
