Situational Language Teaching was one of the most influential language teaching methods of the twentieth century. In this short lesson, I explain the key ideas behind the Oral Approach, the lesson sequence, and the techniques that shaped modern English language teaching. This video is part of my TESOL Methods Explained series, designed for master’s-level TESOL students and early-career teachers. We look at the six main characteristics of the method, the classic lesson stages, the role of visual aids, the PPP format, and the behaviourist ideas that shaped its development. You will also see how this method influenced later approaches in TESOL and why its techniques still appear in classrooms today. By the end of this video, you will understand how Situational Language Teaching works, why it dominated EFL teaching for decades, and what it contributed to the evolution of TESOL as a field. #SituationalLanguageTeaching #TESOL #LanguageTeaching #OralApproach #PPP #AppliedLinguistics #ELT #EFL #ESL #teachertraining Enjoyed this TESOL video?
