Skipping Paragraphs In Reading
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it's reasonable to be upset both that people aren't reading AND then judge how people are reading for funsies. If it's for fun, it should be fun, shouldn't it? I'm also sure there's more nuance here than what I could cover in the video. Like the fact that you can write fun and light-hearted sci-fi and fantasy which still has poignant themes and messages. Or, like I said, you can't effectively academically assess a book without reading the entirety in its entirety (no skipping allowed). And more I haven't even considered yet. And for the record, I don't subscribe to the idea that these online book fan spaces should be un- or anti-political. And at the same time, if you want to curate your feed to be politics free* (because reading for escapism is a real and reasonable thing) you can do that, and also it's rude to demand everyone adhere to your own personal preferences with regard to that. *Books are inherently political due to content (standing up against authority, perpetuating or challenging the status quo, existing as a marginalised person are all things that are politicised). What I mean here is wanting to read book and enjoy book-related content without actively engaging in real-world political discussion as part and parcel.
