We have a new target locked in for our girl Slice — and honestly, we couldn't be more excited about it! 🙌 Slice is now pointed at the $65,000 Maiden Special Weight going ONE MILE on the TURF at Santa Anita Park on May 2nd. 🌿🏇 One. Full. Mile. On the grass. If you've been following Slice's journey from the beginning, you know this is exactly what EJ called for after her debut. Standing in the winner's circle after a gutsy second-place finish at 5½ furlongs, Emisael Jaramillo told us flat out — "she wants a mile." Trainer Michael W. McCarthy agreed. And now, here we are. The team has done their homework, weighed the options, and they're giving this filly exactly what her performance told us she needed. She has been training beautifully in the interim. Her most recent maintenance breeze at Santa Anita came in at 1:01:20 for five furlongs — ranking 14 out of 32 workers — with EJ aboard and a sharp, competitive effort that had her locked on a target the whole way. Felipe on the rail was pleased. The vibes heading into May 2nd are good. Eclipse's Aron Welman confirmed she is handling her prep period well — more comfortable in her own skin and continuing to mature. That's exactly what you want to hear from your managing partner two weeks out from a race.
