This is my take on a mechanical chain driven gate opener. I built this cantilevered sliding gate several years ago to access my shop area. I did not want a swing gate due to limited space in the alley. I also didn't want any ground wheels to support the gate therefore the cantilever design. Due to physical issues that have arisen in the past couple of years, the gate has been getting harder to operate by just by pushing and pulling it open and closed, especially in the winter. I designed this opener using salvaged materials I had on hand, a sprocket and chain bought cheaply from Amazon. It turned out great and is very easy to operate. I should have done this years ago.
