If your small engine primer (purge) bulb isn't working, here's 3 things to check for:
1. Is the bulb cracked? It happens as the bulb ages.
2. Are the fuel lines blocked? Blow them out to make sure they're clear, and check the fuel filter for clogging.
3. Is the fuel tank breather clogged? Pressure or vacuum isn't good.
There is a 4th issue, which is the primer base plate. Sometimes the rubber check valves go bad and the fuel will flow in both directions. The easy fix is to replace the carburetor, which usually costs less than $20.
