This was actually the second song I ever wrote, recorded as a demo back then under the name Funky Fly.
When we finally put it on my first album, The Way I Feel (1999), it became Smooth Ride.
It’s got my late mentor Bobby Lanz tearing it up on B3 organ and Darryl Cotton on drums.
It’s raw, one-take energy. I can remember how much fun I was having just being there.
