How stable is the snowpack really?
In this video, we explain two common snow stability tests: the Compression Test (CT) and the Extended Column Test (ECT).
You’ll learn how these tests are performed, how to interpret the results, and how they help assess snowpack stability and fracture propagation. When used correctly, CT and ECT provide valuable additional information for avalanche assessment.
⚠️ Important: Stability tests provide localized, momentary information and must always be considered in the context of tour planning, terrain, aspect, elevation, and human factors.
