In 1925, Sochi received the status of a resort of national significance — and it was then that mass construction began. Leading architects such as Shchusev, Alabyan, Zholtovsky, and others were involved in the design. Today's Sochi is an eclectic city where neoclassicism, examples of Soviet avant-garde, and futuristic modern architecture coexist harmoniously.
