Knee injuries are common and can involve many structures in the knee. Such as the quadriceps tendon, patella tendon, ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), PCL (posterior cruciate ligament), meniscus, MCL (medial collateral ligament), LCL (lateral collateral ligament) or the joint cartilage in the knee. The exact injury can be difficult to diagnose initially and may therefore require time to rest the knee and allow the pain and swelling to settle. Once time has passed an MRI or other scan will likely be helpful to know what the injury is in detail.
