http://www.greenemath.com/ In this course, we will learn how to solve rational equations, rational inequalities, and word problems that involve rational equations. To solve a rational equation, we first find the LCD of all denominators. We then multiply both sides of our equation by the LCD. From there, we solve our equation and then check to make sure our solutions do not create a denominator of zero. To solve a rational inequality, we create a single rational expression on one side and then zero on the other. We then set the numerator and denominator equal to zero and solve separately. The solution(s) give us critical values that allow us to set up intervals on the number line. We can test inside of the intervals and determine our solution. Additionally, we reject any critical value that creates a denominator of zero and only accept critical values that create a numerator of zero if the inequality is non-strict. Lastly, we will examine how to solve motion word problems (d = r x t) when rational equations are involved and how to solve rate of work word problems.
