Sound in multimedia can be used digitally. Analog sound is converted to digital using different schemes. MIDI is an example that creates instruments based sounds inherent with various features of sound like pitch, tone, panorama, tempo etc.
Sound need to be filtered, sampled and then quantised.Sound can be compressed in order to transfer it over network.
