This presentation is the first of a 2-part series by Joe Clark and Garth Mowat on spatially explicit capture-recapture (SCR) for bear population monitoring. This first presentation by Joe is an introduction to SCR and how cluster sampling and environmental covariates can be used to obtain estimates of inhomogeneous bear densities. Tips on how to reduce costs and how to sample across large spatial extents will be discussed.
