Regarded as the first New Zealand band to gain significant recognition outside of Australasia, they were initially noted for their progressive/art rock sound, flamboyant visual style and theatrical performances. The band later moved toward a pop/new wave sound that yielded the breakthrough hit single "I Got You" (1980). Split Enz broke up in 1984. Since that time, the band has staged several brief reunions. True Colours is the sixth studio album released by New Zealand band Split Enz, and was their first major commercial success. Released on 21 January 1980, the album featured more pronounced contributions from co-lead singer and songwriter Neil Finn than previous releases. The album's New Zealand and Australian number 1 single, "I Got You", which also broke them internationally, is credited to him. Shark Attack is the opening track written by Tim Finn. The US release of the album featured "Shark Attack" and track 2 "I Got You" in reversed positions due to the latter's success on the single charts. Lyrics Loves got teeth and she bites so hard Leaving you for dead like a deadly shark And she doesn't leave a lot to be saved I was swimming in the harbour of your smile Splashing in the ocean like a child I didn't know what dangers lurked there Just beyond the waves - Shark attack! Well she chewed me up and she spat me out I didn't want to meet a maneater Shark attack! Please don't mess around with me I'm a shark fatality, in the sea I'm the one with the bleeding heart I thought you were a real lifesaver And life for once would do me a favour But babys just a butcher, and her teeth are razor sharp Shark attack! Well she chewed me up and she spat me out I didn't want to meet a maneater Shark attack! And I'm lost at sea and I'm an amputee And there was slaughter in the water when I fought her Shark attack! Hey!... Hey!.... Hey!..... Hey!! Shark attack! Well she chewed me up and she spat me out I didn't want to meet a maneater Shark attack! Well I'm lost at sea and I'm an amputee And there was slaughter in the water when I fought her Shark attack! Shark Attack! (repeatedly) (Neil:) Thank you
