Spring Backpacking on the Old Loggers Path

For my first spring hike of 2026, Dan and I headed to the Masten, PA trailhead for the Old Loggers Path. The OLP is a 27 mile backpacking loop located in Loyalsock State Forest and is widely regared as one of the finest backpacking loops in PA. There are two shelters on the loop with one at Doe Run and another at Sprout Point which are both first come first serve. This was my first time hiking the OLP in over a decade and it didn't disappoint. From magnificent vistas, rugged rock formations and crisp clear streams, there was beauty around every turn. The weather was cold for early May with temps barely making it into the 50's during the day and dropping to low 30's at night. I hope you enjoy the adventure!
