I was inspired by a really cool performance here on youtube, where the player kept a middle voice going throughout with lots going on in lower and upper voices. I tried improvising like that and quickly realized I don't have the skills (yet!) to improvise in three voices with an ostinato in the middle. But this led me to develop a structure to improvise in, with a pattern that repeats through most of the piece except for a brief section that adds contrast. This piece is about half composition, half improvisation. I had fun, learned a lot, and identified yet another direction I can grow in!
