Springfield Model 15

SEASON TWO: Next up, the Springfield Model 15 is a bolt action single shot .22 rimfire rifle that was a very popular option for teaching youngsters how to shoot. This is the original "version" and was produced from 1936 to 1948 with a 22'' barrel as the Springfield (an assumed business name of Savage Arms) Model 15 in Chicopee Falls Massachusetts. It's sequel, the 15A, was also made in Chicopee Falls Massachusetts, again under ownership of Savage with a 24'' barrel. This second "version" of this rifle which was produced from 1948 to 1965 and had a two inch longer barrel and can be seen by clicking on the link below to season one. This rifle was also a lifesaver of sorts as it donated its bolt to bring back to life the Stevens Model 15 that limped into the Milsurp Garage needing some care. Dating these is tough as there isn’t much information available to date them by….they didn’t change much through the years so configuration dating is tough as well and these were made well before serial numbers were mandatory. I would put this Springfield Model 15 at approximately 1940. Its accurate. It’s reliable. It’s rimfire. It’s Savage. Need I say more?
