Station St Level Crossing, Carrum
This is the Station St level crossing in Carrum, on the Frankston line, with footage I took in December 2014, December 2017 and June 2018. This crossing is currently in the middle of a grade separation. All crossing infrastructure has since been removed (September 2019), and Carrum station has been demolished, with a new temporary track adjacent to the old line running trains through the area while the new rail bridge is being constructed. This crossing had: - Two General Signals E-Bells. Both bells were programmed to sound continuously up until the boom gates rose - Westinghouse cross-arms. The cross arm on the upper light bracket of the individual signal in the median strip on the western side was bolted upside down - A mixture of marked and unmarked Westinghouse lights on all the crossing. All were incandescent - A Safetran boom gate mechanism on the western side and an Invensys boom gate mechanism on the eastern side, both with Westinghouse bases - Unmarked bases on all individual signals This crossing was rated the 26th most dangerous level crossing in Victoria, according to the Australian Level Crossing Assessment Model in 2008, and thus the 3rd most dangerous on the Frankston line, after North Road, Ormond, and Seaford Road, Seaford (both of which have since been removed). This crossing is being removed along with Eel Race Road and Mascot Avenue by means of Sky-rail. The project is to revitalise Carrum with new community spaces around the area to be opened, including a beach promenade and village square. Station street has since also get a new road bridge over the Patterson river, alongside the railway line and the Nepean Highway, over where the existing pedestrian bridge used to be, which was demolished in March 2018
