Step 2 Repentance
Repentance is a critical step in turning to God. It involves a deep, sincere change of mind and heart — turning away from sin and committing to live in obedience to God's will. True repentance is more than just feeling sorry for wrongdoing; it requires acknowledgment of sin, confession, and a reformation of behavior. Key Aspects of Repentance: Acknowledgment of Sin Before a person can repent, they must recognize and admit their sins. 1 John 1:8–9 – “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves… If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.” Godly Sorrow True repentance involves "godly sorrow," a sorrow that leads to transformation, not just regret. 2 Corinthians 7:10 – “Godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.” Turning Away from Sin Repentance is a turning point — rejecting former sinful ways and striving to follow God’s commands. Acts 3:19 – “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.” Change of Life A repentant person begins to live a new life marked by obedience to God. Luke 3:8 – “Bear fruits worthy of repentance…” Essential for Salvation Repentance is necessary to receive forgiveness and ultimately enter the Kingdom of God. Luke 13:3 – “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” Summary: Repentance is the heartfelt and active response to the recognition of sin. It means turning away from disobedience and aligning one’s life with God’s will. It is essential for forgiveness, cleansing, and a restored relationship with God.
