Suno's ownership rules for music created on the platform depend on your subscription tier and the nature of your creative input. Free (Basic) Plan: Suno owns the songs you generate. You may use them only for non-commercial purposes. You cannot monetize or distribute these tracks commercially. Pro or Premier Plan: You own the songs created during your active subscription. You are granted a commercial-use license, allowing you to monetize, distribute on platforms like Spotify, sell, or use in film and games. These rights remain permanent even after your subscription ends—you keep ownership of tracks made while subscribed. Key Clarification: Ownership under Suno’s terms is not the same as copyright protection. U.S. copyright law requires human authorship. Fully AI-generated music (no human input) may not qualify for copyright registration. However, if you write original lyrics, make significant structural edits, or record vocals, those human contributions can be copyrighted. You must disclose AI involvement when registering. Important Limitations: You cannot use copyrighted lyrics, melodies, or voice clones in prompts. If you extend a song created on the Free plan, you cannot assume ownership or monetize it. Suno grants a broad license to use your uploaded content (lyrics, audio), but you retain ownership of what you submit. Best Practice: Document your creative process (drafts, edits, recordings) to prove human authorship. Consult a music attorney if planning commercial use.
