Stonehenge 'Sun-Gap' Looking out towards the horizon at Stonehenge the original summer solstice rising line of the sun is obscured by a thin line of mainly coniferous trees. This means that the sun doesn't rise up and over the Heel Stone when viewed from the centre of the circle as intended. It also means that there isn't a clear marker point on the horizon to associate the point of the rising sun. The trees where planted by the MoD many years ago breaking an agreement to keep the line clear. Hopefully at some point in the future the gap will be recreated. In this short clip Simon Banton explains where the gap should be situated.
