If your room description doesn’t give players something they can act on, it’s not atmosphere—it’s stalling. In old-school D&D/OSR play, description is gameplay: details create choices, choices create risk, and risk creates tension. In this video I’ll show you a fast, table-ready method to describe dungeon rooms without boxed text or rambling read-aloud. You’ll get a simple 10-second sensory cue template (sight/sound/sell + one oddity + one implied risk), plus practical ways to telegraph traps and secret doors without “spoiling” them. And yes—we’re fixing the worst offender in dungeon design: “the room is empty.” You’ll also see a mini-demo where I rewrite three bland room descriptions into decision fuel that sparks questions, cautious play, and real OSR tension.
