Strengthening Materials through Solid Solution

When we mix in different atoms into a metal, it will cause lattice strains. Lattice strains can also act to impede dislocation motion. This can either be because a large atom is just hard to move out of the way or because a few small atoms remove the issue caused by earlier overcrowding.
