Here's a small-hook adaptation of the Chubby Chernobyl, for hooks size 10 and smaller. The smaller you tie this pattern the more it encroaches on your selection of beetles and ants, but there's something buggy about legs and big wings that draw fish from the depths.
The larger hook gap and the heavier wire will help the fly land and ride upright, and when you have a fly with buoyancy you might as well treat yourself to a stronger hook.
You can substitute freely on the materials. Here's what I used:
HOOK: wet fly #10 or smaller (Dai Riki 075, Mustad 3906, etc)
BUTT: common antron yarn, cerise
DUBBING: Senyo's Fusion Dub, Electric Grape
FOAM BODY: 2mm foam strip
LEGS: Montana Fly speckled sexy legs, purple
WING: Montana Fly Widow's Web, Tan
HOTSPOT: Para Post, Orange
