Subdivision modeling in Gravity Sketch. Subdivision modeling has been around for a good few years now. The first time you may have seen it used was in the Pixar short ‘Geri’s game’ where the old man was made using the technique rather than a spline based solution that was used on the first Toy Story. The technique uses an algorithm that allows you to smooth a mesh while retaining the lower polygon version and still be able to edit that lower version. It is very common in programs like Blender, Maya. Modo, 3DSMax and even ZBrush but you don’[t see it in many VR programs yet. In this Gravity Sketch VR video I’ll show you how to start a subdivision modeling project and explain all the tools at a very basic level. In future videos we will take these skills and build on them to make full models and designs such as the space ship shown in this video.
