Sunkissed
Sunkissed (take 2) Back to that same parking lot where I was waiting for Ness to finish up soccer practice. Had time on my hands, so I recorded a few while I was there. This might be the only other one that I can salvage though… When I first posted this, I described how I came up with the feel…just gonna cut and paste that, cause reading it makes me feel good…and it’s cold outside so thinking of the beach might warm us up… There’s just something about the beach. The sand…the waves…and a bunch of people all yanked from their everyday lives, tossing their work clothes off to soak in the sun and cool off in the water. The mini undertow as the waves pull back against your ankles, burying your feet in the sand as shells roll across your toes. Letting each wave lift you skyward, then setting you back down as you hear it break on shore, just to be lifted again a moment later. Feeling the power of the sea as it pushes you along, riding the ceaseless energy of the tides, caught like so much driftwood bound for shore. Gotta be honest though…I like it even better at night. Walking along the dunes, the soft rumble as waves push the foam up the darkened beach, moon sparking the sand, the stars our only witness with nothing ahead of us but time…to do with as we please… This is another old one…somewhere back at the beginning of college. I really wanted to write a song that felt like waves on the beach. I waited until the sun eased off a bit, then sat down by the water and just played some easy chords along with the endless rumble of the water as the tide came back in to cool off another day’s sun-baked shoreline. Wrote the chorus and first verse right there, pencil pushing sand across the page and a light burn on my skin, but then I got distracted…(happens…) The second verse came out about a week later, thinking back on it all, as I sat back in my room with a smile on my face…yeah, there’s just something about the beach…
