Super Shop Shelf Support
Shop Project: This project is adding additional storage to my shop for the ever increasing wood supply; long term storage. For wood that is stored for a later time it doesn't need to be easily accessible so I went high up for these brackets. I have built these in the past and even built a general workbench / miter station utilizing this style of bracket. What makes these brackets so unique is the utilization of the perfect triangle which happens to be an incredibly strong apparatus. There isn't a set sweet spot of width or length I just go with what I have to work with. This bracket is designed to work best with open construction framing. The width of the studs is what governs the minimum width of each shelf. The design is automatically adjusted based upon the stud spacing. I have found the measurement of 18 inches away from the wall to be an ideal depth. Adding the front end cap minus the inset arm the overhang becomes 16 inches. I also recommend if this system is used a form of tie down should be utilized as a safety precaution. In California it is a must to protect (hopefully) in the event of an earthquake. PLEASE NOTE: These brackets can be adapted to use on a finished wall by creating a nailing point for the side brackets. This is achieved by mounting a 2 by 4 to 2 studs, then the brackets can screw into the ends of the mounted board. Not as strong as the open frame however stronger than most purchased brackets.
