Can a SUPERCAPACITOR, marketed as a high-discharge energy source be the ultimate battery for a racing drone? No. No it can not.
For the sake of complete information:
We charged our 7-cell, 200F supercapacitor pack to maximum allowed voltage seconds before taking off. The VTX and camera were running from a separate, tiny li-po for the purpose of recording the crash when the supercap is empty. A 4-cell 400F pack was also tested, with mixed results - a little more flight time, but much less power and some stability issues. Not so "super" for this application.
