Supersizing SAFe: Enabling Boeing’s Digital Transformation

Presentation at the SAFe Australia Online Meetup on 28th January 2021. One of the questions we are always being asked is how does SAFe work at significant scale. A question we love to answer by talking about the folks at Boeing. Given the interest in this topic, we invited our friend and SAFe Fello Debbie Brey to share her story.... Supersizing SAFe: Enabling Boeing’s Digital Transformation Digital Enterprise (DE) is a company-wide initiative to transform Boeing through process improvements, data management and technology enhancements. DE is about making our business better by enabling Boeing to streamline and simplify work, standardize processes and tools, meet future and expanding business needs, and unleash data and information to improve decision-making. A key aspect of this initiative involves integrating SAFe into the Boeing way of working all the way from the team level up through the portfolio. In 2019, the DE program currently included 16 ARTs, 3 Solution Trains, and a Super Solution Train, as well as a Portfolio with continued growth every Program Increment. Teams on the ARTs are developing business and technical process solutions, COTS configurations, integrations with legacy systems, as well as software development. In this talk, you will learn about the state of the transformation and some of the techniques that were developed in order to accommodate the size of the transformation About Debbie Debbie Brey has a BS in Computer Science and has been supporting and promoting Agile at Boeing for over 14 years. She became an iSPCT in 2019 and a SAFe Fellow in 2020. Her current role is in establishing an Enterprise Agile Center of Excellence for Boeing.
