DaDa and Neue Sachlichkeit were both fairly pessimistic movements. Not all of the art movements in the early 20th century were so cynical. Some artist reacted to the turmoil of the modern world by promoting utopian ideas and holding fast to their belief that art could improve society and make the world a better place. In Russia two such movements emerge in response to significant political upheaval. they are Suprematism and Constructivism. Suprematism was a type of art formulated by Kazimir Malevich to convey his belief that the supreme reality in the world is pure feeling, which attaches to no object and thus calls for new, nonobjective forms in art--shapes not related to objects in the visual world. Constructivism was a Russian art movement formulated by Naum Gabo, who built up his sculptures piece by piece instead of carving or modeling them. In this way, the sculptor worked with "volume of mass" and "volume of space" as different materials.
