Description
The Discrete Phase Model (DPM) simulates multiphase flows by tracking individual particles from a Lagrangian perspective—more accurate than Eulerian models (Mixture, VOF, Eulerian) but computationally intensive.
Problem Setup
3D 5cm cubic domain with 0.005m square surface inlet on left face. Geometry created in DesignModeler, 92,809 structured cells via ANSYS ICEM. 8th episode of MR CFD's ANSYS Fluent General Training Course.
Methodology
Transient, pressure-based solver (incompressible flow), gravity (-Y). Surface Injection DPM models particle injection from inlet face.
Results
3D particle tracking shows injection from left, slight downward gravity drift, radial spreading, and right-side domain exit. Animation recorded every 5 timesteps. Injection summary displays parcel/particle counts.
