SUSPENDED (PARTIALLY) SIDE SPLIT Not quite Van Damme standard but working on it. I worked on this through the following steps Step 1. Getting a perfectly flat pancake with my stomach stomach touching the floor. Step 2. Going down and up using the strength and flexibility of the legs, without the use of hands. Step 3. Pulling myself through the pancake till my legs are closed, trying to raise the hips as little as possible Step 4. Standing and lowering into a side split and getting flat on the ground Step 5. Transiting from side split to front split and side split back to front split Step 6. This version, over split on blocks and using inner thighs to raise myself, using hands as little as possible. Step 7. Final step, not there yet. Do like Step 6, but without hand assistance. Other people will have their own way of getting there, but this is how I plan to get to Van Damme level 7 standard. Side splits are much more difficult than front splits, although its easier to train as we don’t have to do left and right side, just do both side together. But very much more painful. For most people, there is no need to have such flexibility, but I do this because its my hobby.
