Sweeney Todd 2025
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a Tony Award-winning musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler. Premiering on Broadway in 1979, the show is a dark and thrilling tale of revenge, set in 19th-century London. It follows Sweeney Todd, a barber who returns to the city after being wrongfully imprisoned, seeking vengeance against the corrupt Judge Turpin, who destroyed his family. Teaming up with the cunning pie shop owner Mrs. Lovett, Todd begins a gruesome killing spree, using his barber chair to dispatch victims whose remains become the filling for Lovett’s meat pies. Known for its intricate score, haunting melodies, and macabre themes, Sweeney Todd masterfully blends horror with dark humor, making it one of Sondheim’s most celebrated works. This performance is presented here for archival reasons. "Sweeney Todd" is the property of Music Theatre International (MTI).
