Frequency Response Analysis allows the integrity of the active part of a power transformer to be verified without opening it. FRA is the most sensitive method for detecting winding deformation. This method can also reveal short circuits between turns, strands or windings, or open circuits. This method can also identify core faults including mechanical deformation, floating core ground, or shorted core laminates. Tap changer problems, such as bad contacts in the tap selector or the diverter switch, can also be found.
