Even though Sylenth isn't known for ambient sounds, it is quite capable of producing some great pads. This EDM pad in Sylenth1 is a just one oscillator using a standard Saw wave and it sounds pretty thick!
It's important to add some length to the attack time and release time in the envelope section. Otherwise it will sound more like a lead. You could even introduce a sine wave in OSC A2 to add some low end presence!
To really bring the sound to life, I applied a velocity macro and tied the Cut Off of the filter to it. This will make the Cut Off frequency velocity sensitive which is a great way to add some expressiveness to the sound.
The Chorus effect is a very important step in creating this EDM pad in Sylenth1. It really helps thicken things up without having to use detune or unison.
