Healthcare systems are complex, and in such systems, it could be challenging to understand how quality and safety is constructed and maintained. It is important to use a systems thinking approach in improving the delivery of healthcare, as it increases the ability to understand complex work processes, to predict system behaviour and to design sustainable solutions for healthcare delivery issues. Systems thinking involves exploring the characteristics of components within a system and how they interconnect using a holistic lens.
