Tailstock DRO

In this video I install a DIY DRO on my lathe tailstock using a set of cheap digital vernier callipers from Bunnings. Instead of buying an expensive dedicated scale, I modified the callipers and designed a set of custom brackets so they could be mounted directly to the tailstock. The brackets were machined in the shop — milling, drilling and tapping them so everything lines up properly and moves smoothly with the tailstock quill. This setup now gives me a quick and accurate way to track tailstock movement without constantly relying on the dial. It’s a simple and affordable upgrade that makes a big difference when drilling or using the tailstock for precise depth work.
