Alyssa teaches you how to play Tam Lin! Tam Lin is a character in a legendary ballad originating from the Scottish Borders. It is also associated with a reel of the same name, also known as the Glasgow Reel. The story revolves around the rescue of Tam Lin by his true love from the Queen of the Fairies. The motif of winning a person by holding him through all forms of transformation is found throughout Europe in folktales. The ballad dates to at least as early as 1549. Some tips for practicing: - Learn the melody at both the slow and fast tempo. Don't forget you can slow down and speed up the video too! - Play the melody along with the jam track. Can you keep the melody going when Eimear's part drops out? - Try to play the chords. Experiment with using different rhythms. There are a lot of chords in this song and a bunch of ways to play them. Attempt to play them in your lower register, using only the D and G strings, or only the G and C. - Improvise over the jam track.
