I'm gradually re-making videos with audio instead of annotations for those who prefer them. Split rings are great because they are so useful. They let you change direction with your tatting, enable you to move from round to round of a pattern without having to cut, tie, and start again (split chains are also great for that) and are generally a versatile design element.
