A new program rolling out at schools throughout SFSD is giving students a chance to get a head start on their careers in education, and get paid for it! The para-apprenticeship program works within the Teacher Pathway program to allow high school students to spend part of their school day working in elementary or middle school classrooms. These students work closely with the classroom teacher to help younger students with their school work, while at the same time getting a real life idea of what being a full time teacher is like. The best part is that these student workers are actual employees of the Sioux Falls School District and get paid for their time in assisting in the classroom. Programs like these are a "win-win-win" scenario. Younger students get to learn from their older student counterparts, teachers get some assistance in the classroom, and high school students get an amazing experience (and a paycheck!).
