Technical diving skills- Deploying a DSMB
One of my TDI intro to tech students Geri deploying a Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB). Dive was a Kleifarvatn geothermal lake in Iceland, south of Reykjavik. Don't be fooled by the geothermal bit, water temp was 5 degrees C (41 Fahrenheit). Great example of good buoyancy, awareness, staying in one place and keeping trim. Normally the DSMB is already attached to the spool in the pocket. The only thing to improve is to not have any loose line from the spool prior to deploying. Some divers prefer to deploy the DSMB using only the right hand. It can be done either way. The main consideration is ensuring there is no entanglement hazard before you add air. Also, at the end, students often struggle winding the spool using the double-ender. Ensure you have distance between the spool and double-ender. Hold the double-ender in the same place and wind the spool up to it. Dive in this video was at Kleifarvatn geothermal lake, just south of Reykjavik in Iceland. Now diving out of Alba Dive Tulamben in Bali, Indonesia. Subscribe to my youtube channel to see more skills demos and other tech diving related stuff.
