During automated testing, failed assertions expose unexpected behavior. This is an important part of testing, and is a source of bugs found. However, this unexpected behavior is a risk: Tests halt on exceptions, further assertions aren't executed, test coverage is reduced, and valuable QA time is spent triaging.
Ross Radford, Senior Software Engineer at Experian, will be presenting on assertions as a software testing best practice: hard assertions vs soft assertions, when to use single and multiple assertions, and how non-halting assertions result in better test coverage, stability, and code reuse.
