My reproduction of the Thaumatrope, a device invented around 1824 that demonstrates the phenomenon know as "persistance of vision." Two parts of a picture are printed on opposite sides of a card that is mounted on a shaft. When it spins rapidly, the eye is tricked into seeing the images as one picture. It was a popular toy and parlor amusement during the Victorian Era.
